RotaRun for Charity is a sports and charity event organized by the Rotary Club Cluj-Napoca, which combines running with community involvement. Our goal is to transform the energy and generosity of participants into real support for children fighting cancer.
In the year 2023, the Rotary Club Cluj-Napoca proposed to start a priority project, over several years, to support the development of the Pediatric Oncology Department of IOCN “Prof. dr. Ion Chiricuță” from Cluj-Napoca.
The project in 2023 consisted in equipping with specific furniture the space used for the preparation and administration of oncologic treatment in pediatric oncology (treatment room and intensive care unit) and the rehabilitation of the ward with beds for 41 patients and also extensive works to restore the ward with installations, painting, flooring, etc., to the standards required for hospital spaces. Amount spent for OncoPediatric stage 1 = 348.626 lei total.
Our project continued with the second phase, OncoPediatrics 2, consisting of 24 beds, 33 bedside tables and of course extensive installation works, painting, flooring, etc., to the standards required for hospital premises. For this purpose, we have initiated RotaRun for Charity, in 2025, where we raised 20.000 EUR.
Together with other sponsorships and donations received, as well as funding from The Rotary Foundation International through a Global Grant, total funds in 2025 were 205.000 lei. This amount covered 60% of the objectives proposed in Phase 2 renovation. Part of the works were started and completed during 2025 and the results can be seen in the pictures. The remaining works are planned for 2026, but they are only 60% of what is needed.
The funds raised in the 2026 edition will be directed towards the completion of the renovation of the remaining wards of the Oncopaediatric Ward, so that our multi-year project will reach 100%. We want every child treated here to benefit from modern, safe and welcoming facilities.
